Fear not the face oil routine!
Not that this is a novelty at this point, but Face Oil is the only way I moisturize and I have noticed an absolute difference in tone, texture and overall skin quality.
The antidote for that dried out, prune & pickle feeling from washes that strip, sunscreen, chemical peels, air travel etc. is a daily dose of face oil (or what we call Essential Facial Serum)
Look Forward to the sensual experience of facial cleansing:
It may sound funny, but choose a scent blend that pleases you, and your morning and evening skin ritual becomes a sensual experience to look forward to. I notice a discernible improvement in texture, hydration and all that anti-aging jazz. My skin feels like a dewy, healthy & glowing organ rather than a lifeless source of aggravation.
Don’t be confused about oil-on-the-face because the chemistry is simple and compelling.
Our skin, from the face to the body at large, is our largest organ. It breathes, it sheds, it eats and it produces a naturally protective oil called Sebum to protect its surface and keep it glowing, supple and healthy. Sebum is that natural layer of protection from evil bacteria, fungus and pollutants.
“Precious Natural oil production,” according to Ajara Skincare guru Nicole Hinterstocker (purveyor of one of my favorite face oil blends), “depends on many factors, including your ayurvedic body type, your diet, and your age. Oil production typically diminishes around age 40, and oils get stripped away by soaps and cleansers.”
My morning skin-care practice includes fresh cool water, gentle, non-stripping cleansing with witch hazel, toning with rose-water spritz and a few drops of our serum. You will soon notice that oils are best applied to moist skin so that they fully absorb and disperse.
Two more things about Face oil:
It makes a great make-up remover and preventative Rx for skin dehydrated from flying, skiing, sunning etc.
And now for the self-promtion: Our Essential Facial Serum was created especially for us using a recipe I love for its simple benefits and efficacy and its scent with essential oils that have aromatherapy benefits all their own. Multi-tasking again!
Jojoba: Closest to the skin’s natural Sebum protective barrier. It can actually help control over-production of sebum so fear not. It won’t clog the pores. Rich in vitamin E and anti-oxidants.
Almond: Deeply moisturizing and soothing to irritated skin. Rich in Vitamins A, B and E.
Argan: Produced in morocco, this one targets anti-aging concerns like wrinkles and is recommended for soothing eczema, acne, and dry skin. It is rich in vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and antioxidants.
Rose Hip: The GO-TO for Vitamin C. This additive oil helps with skin repair, scars and red-marks
Seaberry: Omega-3 rich in antioxidants.
Evening Primrose: Another Additive effective for skin troubles like eczema, psoriasis and acne.
EXTRA TIP: mix the face oil with a gentle buffing grain like chick pea powder or almond pulp left-over from making almond milk to renew surface skin. Massage gently and rinse.
